Why dryers stop heating or take too long to dry
A dryer needs three things to work well: heat, tumbling and airflow. When one of them fails you get damp clothes, long cycles or no heat at all. On electric dryers the usual culprits are a burnt heating element or a blown thermal fuse. On gas dryers the igniter or gas valve coils wear out. If the drum does not turn, the belt, idler pulley or motor is the likely cause. By far the most common issue we see is restricted venting: lint packed into the vent duct makes the dryer overheat, trips safety fuses and wastes energy.
A note on dryer vent safety
Lint buildup is the leading cause of dryer fires, so airflow is part of every dryer repair we do. We check that air moves freely through the vent, that the duct is not crushed or too long, and that the exterior flap opens fully. If your dryer takes more than one cycle to dry a normal load, if the top of the dryer or the laundry room gets unusually hot, or if you notice a burning smell, stop using it and call us. Cleaning the lint screen after every load and having the vent duct cleaned about once a year protects both the appliance and your home.
What a dryer repair visit looks like
We diagnose the dryer with a meter and an airflow check rather than guessing, explain what failed and give you the price before any work begins. Heating elements, thermal fuses, igniters, belts, rollers and thermostats are typically replaced on the spot.
